Karen & Phil are just fab. When they invited me along to take their Newton Hall wedding photos I knew from the off it was going to be a special day. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, Newton Hall rocks, and along with a super cool venue, I’ve been blessed with super cool couples. Karen, along with her bridesmaids and some of her family chose to get ready nearby at a lovely little holiday cottage named Driftwood Cottage. Quite aptly named I thought considering the beach was about 400 yards away. I make no apologies for the number of photos of her young niece and nephew during the bridal preps. Karen chose to be alone for the best part of it and this little dude in particular was just “too cool for skool”
The weather wasn’t bad considering it was early April. It was dry, a bit blowy and the sky looked pretty menacing, but it was dry, and for the North East coast this is considered a bonus. As you’ve gathered, this isn’t the first time I’ve been asked to take Newton Hall wedding photos, but what I like about this venue is that no two weddings are the same. The scope from a wedding photography point of view is amazing and even though I consider myself to be more a documentary wedding photographer who’s main focus is people rather than the details, I always find myself photographing a lot more detail than I normally would. The place is just screaming to be photographed.
One thing all my Newton Hall couples have had in common is they’ve all taken a trip to the beach for some photographs. And why not, I mean how beautiful is that stretch of coastline. Phil being the romantic doctor type effortlessly whisked Karen up in his arms and walked her down to the beach, well not quite the beach! Phil followed me, who took a wrong turn and we ended up at the top of a sand dune looking onto the beach. I grabbed the opportunity to catch a few portraits with that threatening sky, before almost being witness to Phil dropping his new bride down a sand dune, check out his expression a little down the page. Selfishly, I carried on photographing rather than reaching out to catch her. Don’t think bad of me..
Here’s a little taster of their day, enjoy.
